Patient support mechanisms for Nuclear Medicine Practitioners: Fundamentals and service user experience

This half day session (09:30 – 12:30 PM) is aimed at nuclear medicine practitioners who are involved in the care and imaging of oncology patients within their department. The short course is delivered in conjunction with a macmillan cancer nurse specialist and focuses on patient support skills and primary counselling skills for nuclear medicine practitioners.

Being able to identify patients who are experiencing the various emotional stages of living with cancer provides nuclear medicine practitioners with a greater understanding of their personal needs and help to ensure the acquisition of optimal images. The half day course will explore the various emotional stages of coming to terms / being diagnosed with cancer and the support strategies nuclear medicine practitioners can use as part of their daily working practice. The course will also encompass a service user’s experience of a PET/CT examination and provide an opportunity for a questions and answers session.

Further details of the course agenda will be available in the next few weeks.
